Whether exhaust tips alone can change the sound of a car depends largely on the components used.

Going from a 1 5 inch diameter tip to a 4 inch tip can make the exhaust note deeper but far less so than simply buying a new muffler. Since i am not dropping well over a thousand duckets on a catback exhaust i am pleased with the muffler delete and tips to set it off for less then 240 bones for all of it. It does appear to change the sound for the better. Intercooled exhaust tips certainly change the sound. The difference in sound is quite noticeable.
I think a 15 angle looks good. As a result gas exits the system and immediately cools down. Not only can they look impressive like very impressive but a good tip can also alter the sound of your exhaust system. I believe this is do to the reduction in turbulence at the tip itself.
Exhaust tips and exhaust sound when used in combination with an upgraded exhaust system including wider pipes and or an performance muffler exhaust tips can amplify the new tones coming from your exhaust. Im gonna try that the next time im playing with an exhaust system.
